Home Security Checklist

Introduction

Whether you’re moving into a new home or just looking to improve the security of your existing one, this checklist will help you find the right home security system for your needs.

Install an alarm system.

  • Wired or wireless?
  • You can install a home security system either wired or wirelessly. A wired one will run from your control panel to each sensor and device, while a wireless one uses radio signals to communicate between them. If you’re not handy with wiring, a wireless system is easier to install; but if you want something more reliable and secure (and less prone to interference), go with the wired option.

Wireless systems come in two flavors: monitored or DIY (do-it-yourself). With a monitored system, someone else monitors your home’s security 24/7; with DIY monitoring–which we recommend–you’re responsible for checking on things yourself at least once every few days or weeks. This is usually done through an app on your phone so it doesn’t require much effort beyond opening up an app!

Replace your locks.

You should replace your locks if:

  • Your current lock is not keyless and easy to use. If you have to fumble with keys, it makes unlocking the door more difficult than it needs to be. Also, there’s no reason why an electronic deadbolt doesn’t work just as well as a traditional keyed one–and they’re easier on the wallet!
  • The lock is old or damaged beyond repair. If your home security system relies on a single point of failure (i.e., an old-fashioned lock), then it’s time for an upgrade!
  • The lock was installed incorrectly by someone else and now needs adjustment or repair work done before being used again safely and securely in its current state of disrepair.”

Install a security camera.

Install a security camera.

A good security camera will help you identify potential threats, as well as provide evidence if something happens. There are many options available, including the Nest Cam and Ring Doorbell Pro.

Install it on your front door or windows facing the street so that you can see who’s coming and going from your home. If you have an outdoor area where people can approach without being seen by neighbors, like in a garage or shed, consider installing one there as well.

Look for features like night vision capabilities so that it works even in low light conditions; motion detection sensors to alert users when something moves within range of the camera; two-way audio so they can speak directly with someone at their front door without having to open it first (this feature may not work well with old houses); microSD memory cards so footage doesn’t get lost if batteries die out unexpectedly (you’ll want at least 8GB). Some models also come with built-in Wi-Fi connectivity so they can connect directly with smartphones via apps such as iSmartAlarm (iOS only) or Live Cams Pro ($4 per month subscription required).

Get a dog!

You don’t need a dog to feel safe, but if you have one and it’s not barking at every sound or shadow in your yard, then maybe you should get another one. Dogs are great security guards because they’re always on alert and will sound the alarm if anyone comes near the house. They also provide companionship and comfort when you’re feeling down about being alone at home all day (or night).

Dogs can help make us feel more secure by giving us something else to focus on besides our own worries–it’s easier to pay attention to someone else’s problems than yours! And finally, dogs give us reasons not only to get up in the morning but also go outside: walking around with them gives us exercise; playing fetch provides entertainment; hunting rabbits provides food (for both humans and dogs).

With these steps, you know that you have the best home security in town!

Now that you have a good security system, and you know how to use it, it’s time to make sure your home is as safe as possible. The best way to do this is by making sure there are no easy ways for someone to break into your house or apartment.

  • Make sure your windows and doors have strong locks on them. You should also consider installing security bars on the inside of all your windows if they aren’t already there so that burglars can’t break the glass and reach in to unlock them from the inside (this will also help keep out bugs).
  • Get yourself some motion-activated lights that turn on when someone walks past them–these are great for illuminating dark areas around entrances like garages and stairwells so potential criminals will be seen before they get too close!
  • Don’t forget about keeping pets safe: dogs are excellent guard animals because they bark at strangers who come near their territory so having one around gives extra protection against intruders trying to sneak into homes through dog doors!

Conclusion

We hope this checklist has been helpful in helping you make decisions about how best to protect your home. Remember that while it’s important to take precautions against theft and burglary, the most effective way of protecting your property is by installing an alarm system. If you want peace of mind at night or when you are away from home for long periods of time (such as on holiday), then look no further than our range of home security products!
